One of the many duties we have out here at Camp Eagle as Walkabout students is walking alongside the staff and serving the many guests that come on the campus. This is actually one of my favorite things so far… the opportunity to get to meet new people, create a connection and just pour into their lives! Over my time here I have had the privilege of working two of three events.
Mountain Bike Festival
One of the largest events Camp Eagle holds is this huge bike
festival where people, from all over the state and some outside of Texas, come
to compete on the hardest course they have ever had to endure. I know at the
beginning of the festival we were expecting 1500 people (adults and kids) to be
on our campus, since then I never heard the final count of how many were able
to make it out.
My job at this event was the registration table that set
outside the entrance of the camp. I was able to welcome the individuals after
their journey down the 8 mile road to get to camp! To be able to present them
each with a smile, information and any type of service they needed was such a
neat job. I definitely was blessed through this assignment and was able to talk
to SO many people!
Another perk of my job was the hours that I was assigned to
work! My shift included 2 am to 8 am and 2 pm to 8 pm! Yes, you may want to
relook at that and consider those hours! They were long hours of work with a
little time for a good -3 hour nap, eating some food and hiking out to the
front of camp! BUT through these times of deliriousness I was able to truly
grow in my relationships with one of my Walkabout brothers and one of the
fulltime staff members. We enjoyed many hours of coffee drinking, storytelling,
card games, inside jokes, and hilarious moments of deliriousness.
It was through these moments that I was reminded of the
importance of the connection with my brothers and sisters in Christ. What a
great joy it was to sit and laugh with people that I was able to share my heart
with as they were able to encourage me and pour into me! There are many times
in my life in which I have taken advantage of the many Christian friends that I
do have. Instead of sitting together in happiness and joy of the grace we have
all received from our Father – much time has been spent moaning and groaning
about the problems in this world.
I left the weekend assignment and was able to really just
sit on the ideas of friendship and the time that can easily be wasted in this
world. Until we all decide to live for Christ and share about the goodness He
has for each of us… our time here will be wasted.
FAMILY CAMP
Another event I have been involved in was family camp last
weekend! How amazing it was to see parents bring their children out to Camp
Eagle in order to be able to grow closer as a family in Christ! Such a blessing
to know that there are parents in this generation who still find it important
to raise their family centered on Christ! Through this retreat we had close to
80 people here on campus, which consisted of around 20 families! I was able to
get to know and invest in about 15 of those families and had SUCH a blast doing
so! Each family was unique and their desire to follow after the plans of the
Lord was inspiring.
My job at this event was to work the activities with the
families and be available to each individual at the services, activities, and
extra events. I had many conversations throughout this time and enjoyed my time
learning about the different families and each of their children! One activity
that I was able to work was the “Sherpa”, which is about a 2.5 mile hike that
the individuals have to brave as they are each connected to a cable that
attaches them to the side of the cliff that we are trekking on. During this
time, I not only was able to conquer one of my own fears, but I was able to
encourage and get to know several of the families that were close to the back
of the line!
The theme of family camp was Communication! Each family had
certain activities that they were to work on with one another. The dynamic
breakup was different of course for each individual family. As one may have struggled
to get the children to participate, another may have struggled with aspects of
an absent spouse. Praise God for restoration and growth though! Through the
events of the weekend and the closeness (secluded from the world out here) of
the family through this time at Camp Eagle… much growth occurred!!!
As I look back on that weekend, I am encouraged by the
efforts these parents made to raise their families in such a way. I know that
when the Lord blesses me with a family, I would truly enjoy being able to be a
part of these family camp events centered on Christ! My favorite mental picture
of that weekend was watching the different families worship together during one
of the services!
FATHER/DAUGHTER weekend
OHHHH how precious I must say! Though I am not involved this
weekend with this event, I wanted to share in my excitement of seeing these
relationships grow closer to one another! Praise the one who is responsible for
such Godly fathers desiring to show their daughters how much they love and
adore them!
The fathers and daughters have fun events like dance
lessons, cooking, and more that for some reason I just can’t think recall right
this second! How precious right!? Blessings to these fathers who have taken
this step to show their daughters the importance of Christ in our lives!
